[OSEN=황미현 기자] YG’s ambitious project ‘WHO IS NEXT: WIN’, the survival program that will determine the formation of the first boy group in 8 years, forecasted a creation of a big hit group when it hit a record-breaking viewing rate.

On Oct 4, ‘WIN’ aired the second battle between Teams A and B, which recorded an average viewing rate of 1.3% and the peak of 1.9% according to Nielson Korea’s research based on households with cable channels. This is a record-breaking rate for the program. It is a clear testament to how popular the how has become.


On the first episode, ‘WIN’ recorded 1.5% as the peak, and the number has been climbing since to hit 1.9% in the latest episode. The standard for ‘successful’ viewing rate on cable channels is 1%, thus this again shows how popular the show has become on a weekly basis.

The excitement will only be heightened as the result of second battle is yet to be released and as the final round of battle still awaits. The explosive response is coming not only from the cutthroat competition between the two Teams, but also from the extremely talented trainees.

Judges also include top musicians like Park Jin Young, Yoon Jeong Shin and Lee Hyeon Do, along with YG’s founder Yang Hyun Suk. Their comments heighten the tension and excitement at the same time.

In the episode aired on Oct 4, scenes of Team A with Kang Seung Yoon and Lee Seung Hoon winning the first battle were replayed, along with the scenes of two Teams having another cutthroat competition.

‘WIN’ is a real survival program that divides YG’s 11 trainees into Teams A and B for an extremely fierce battle. For 10 weeks, the two teams will be put in 3 battles, and the winning team will be making a debut straight away as a boy group under the name ‘WINNER’. This will be YG’s first boy group in 8 years. ‘WIN’ is aired every Friday on Mnet and tvN.
