[OSEN=손남원 기자] YG Entertainment’s founder Yang Hyun Suk announced that the losing team will be broken up on ‘WIN’, YG’s real survival program that will determine the formation of the first boy group in 8 years since BIGBANG.
Through a phone interview, Yang said on Oct 5, “The viewers are the judges on ‘WIN’, and the result depends on them completely. We will follow the viewers’ decision and will keep the promise we made. At the production preview event, we announced that the winning team will make a debut straight away while the losing one will either face a break-up or indefinite delay of debut. And we decided that the losing team should be broken up. We believe that is the right thing to do.”
YG’s ambitious program, ‘WIN’ is an audition program that divides the agency’s 11 trainees into Teams A and B for a fierce battle to become a professional group. It is aired every Friday on cable channels Mnet and tvN. As more episodes are aired each week, the response of the viewers are becoming more explosive.
On Oct 4, when the second battle of ‘WIN’ was aired, the average viewing rate hit a whopping 1.3%, which is very rare for cable channels. According to Nielson Korea, the peak was 1.9%. The high viewing rate is a record-breaker for the entertainment agency itself as well. It shows that as the competition between the two Teams becomes fiercer, the viewers are more attracted to the show. Mnet’s personnel said, “Many watch ‘WIN’ on the Internet through the replay service, and the viewing rate on the Internet surpasses any major terrestrial broadcasts by far.”
The excitement will only be heightened as the result of second battle is yet to be released and as the final round of battle still awaits. The explosive response is coming not only from the cutthroat competition between the two Teams, but also from the extremely talented trainees.
Despite the two Team’s popularity, Yang is set on keeping the promise with the viewers. “The two Teams have been able to create their own fandom and popularity, but we made a promised with the viewers. Just like how we originally planned the program, the losing team will officially be broken up immediately after the show.”
‘WIN’ is a real survival program that divides YG’s 11 trainees into Teams A and B for an extremely fierce battle.
