Yang Hyun Suk has set out to debut a male idol group to follow in Big Bang’s tracks through Mnet′s new survival audition program WIN: Who is Next, and the YG CEO recently sat down with reporters to talk about his latest project.
A production presentation for the
upcoming survival audition program was held at the Conrad Hotel Grand
Ballroom in Seoul on August 20.
On his expectations for the new idol
group, Yang Hyun Suk stated, “YG has changed a lot since Big Bang’s
debut eight years ago. The new group will carry the responsibility of YG
for the next eight years.”
While there’s a lot riding on the show, Yang Hyun Suk also said that it’s up to the trainees themselves to prove their talents.
“It took a year for Big Bang to make
it,” said Yang Hyun Suk. “Big Bang made its debut with a track written
by someone else, but it was G-Dragon’s Lie that made Big Bang what it is
today.”
“I’m not going to make the winner on the show,” added Yang Hyun Suk. “The program will uncover the individuals’ talents.”
Two teams of
trainees, Team A and Team B, will battle it out, but the winner will be
determined 100 percent by viewers’ votes. The winning team will have the
opportunity to debut.
Yang Hyun Suk has made the final call on
YG’s artists in the past, but he revealed he wanted to turn the
decision over to the public this time around, stating, “The public is
unpredictable. I wanted to ask the public, and thought it was the right
way to go.”
He also stated, “While leading YG the
last 15 years, I made a lot of the decisions, but this time, I decided
to put the decision in the viewers’ hands.”
There will be three battles throughout
the 10-episode survival program, and YG’s representative artists and
producers as well as other special guests are set to make appearances on
the show.
The show is set to premiere on on Mnet and tvN on August 20.
